Today's essentials (5 key points)

  • La Marina Plaza reports that an average home in the Marina Alta ranges from 62,400 euros in la Vall d'Ebo to 540,000 euros in Xàbia or Teulada.
  • On Monday 5 October 2026, Open-Meteo forecasts a cloudy day in Alicante city between 19 and 27 degrees, with a 45% chance of scattered showers inland at Ibi.
  • The Departamento de Salud Alicante-Hospital General and the University of Alicante hold the IX Jornada de Lactancia Materna (breastfeeding day) on Monday 5 October 2026.
  • Eduardo Monfort, who served as centrist mayor of Xàbia in two separate periods, has died, according to TodoAlicante and La Marina Plaza.
  • The ADDA·Simfònica Alicante will play Dvořák, Saint-Saëns and Beethoven in its 'Natura II' programme, AlicanteOut announces.

Today's essentials

Ibi's free mountain walks: 3 left in 2026, all at 9am. Three free guided hikes in the hills around Ibi are still to come in 2026: Cabeçet de Domingo in October, Cabeç Roig on 28 November and the traditional climb to the Belén de la Teixereta on 24 December, all starting at 9am and none needing a booking, AlicanteOut reports.

The series is called 'Rutas Mágicas por las montañas de Ibi' and is run by the Museo de la Biodiversidad de Ibi, part of the town hall's environment department. The 2026 programme has seven guided walks between March and December, all free. Four have already taken place (Serra Grossa in March, Serra del Biscol in April, the Font Roja in May and the Pedra dels Tres Termes in September), so the last three are now coming up.

The next one heads into the Serra del Carrascal to Cabeçet de Domingo (1,105 m), leaving from the Ayuntamiento de Ibi. The date isn't settled yet: Ibi town hall's official website (ibi.es) gives Saturday 24 October 2026, while AlicanteOut says Saturday 31 October. Check ibi.es or call the museum before you set off. The Serra del Quarter walk to Cabeç Roig (914 m) follows on Saturday 28 November 2026, also from the town hall.

The year ends with the most symbolic walk: the traditional climb to the Belén de la Teixereta (1,338 m) on Thursday 24 December 2026, starting at 9am from the plaza de la Palla in Ibi town centre. The museum at Glorieta Nicolás Payá Jover 2, Ibi (tel. +34 966 55 31 68) is the best place to ask about practical details. None of the sources says how long or how hard each walk is, or whether there are age limits, so check before you go.

If you'd like to explore the area on your own between dates, the Parque Natural del Carrascal de la Font Roja, which straddles Ibi and Alcoi, is the obvious choice. Its holm oak and gall oak forest is one of the best-preserved mountain woodlands in Alicante province, and the Menejador summit is a popular hike there. Next door, the Serra de Mariola, between Alcoi, Bocairent and Agres, has well-marked trails and old snow wells. Ibi has no train station, so you'll realistically need a car. Driving up from the coast through the Alcoià valleys is part of the experience.

What it means for you: put 28 November and 24 December in your diary now, keep both 24 and 31 October free until ibi.es confirms the date, and be at the starting point well before 9am with boots, water and a layer. Mornings inland in autumn are cooler than on the coast.

Weather today

Grey and mild on the coast, showers possible inland. According to Open-Meteo, Alicante city will be overcast on Monday 5 October 2026, with temperatures from 19 to 27 degrees, only a 5% chance of rain and winds of up to 13 km/h.

Inland it's cooler and less settled: Ibi drops to 14 degrees at its coolest and peaks at 25, with scattered showers and a 45% chance of rain, so carry a light jacket and a small umbrella if you're heading into the hills. On the coast at Dénia, expect 20 to 26 degrees, scattered showers and a 20% chance of rain. A coastal stroll looks safe enough, but keep an eye on the sky in the afternoon.

Transport & traffic

  • Marina Alta homes: from 62,400 to 540,000 euros. An average home in the Marina Alta costs anywhere from 62,400 euros in la Vall d'Ebo to 540,000 euros in Xàbia or Teulada, La Marina Plaza reports. The coast tops the price list while the inland valleys stay the cheapest, and the gap per square metre is huge: Xàbia costs almost six times as much as Castell de Castells. If you're house-hunting on a budget, the trade-off is clear. The valleys behind the coast give you far more space for your money, but you'll depend more on a car for shops, health centres and the beach.

What's changing for you

  • Breastfeeding support day at Alicante's main hospital. The Departamento de Salud Alicante-Hospital General and the University of Alicante hold the IX Jornada de Lactancia Materna (breastfeeding day) on Monday 5 October 2026, a day focused on supporting breastfeeding and the families going through it, elperiodic Alicante reports. If you're expecting or have a newborn and get your care through the Departamento de Salud Alicante-Hospital General, ask your midwife or health centre about the breastfeeding support available. It's also a good moment to find out what follow-up the public system offers new parents in your area.

Local news to know

  • Former Xàbia mayor Eduardo Monfort dies. Eduardo Monfort, centrist mayor of Xàbia in two separate periods of the democratic era, has died, TodoAlicante and La Marina Plaza report; as leader of Bloc-Centristes he was known as a moderate who could do deals with both the right and the left.
  • Fried pizza comes to Alicante. According to TodoAlicante, one of the world's top pizza makers is bringing his fried pizza to Alicante.
  • Dvořák, Saint-Saëns and Beethoven at the ADDA. The ADDA·Simfònica Alicante, with Carles Marín and Nayden Todorov, will play Dvořák, Saint-Saëns and Beethoven at the ADDA in Alicante as part of 'Natura II', a programme in its 2026/27 symphonic season, AlicanteOut announces.
  • Benidorm Pride 2026 is over. Benidorm Pride 2026 ran from 1 to 6 September, with a Pool Party, Ñ Divas Disco, a White Party, the parade and a Main Stage After-Party, as listed in the Life in Benidorm guide.
