Today's essentials
Elda blasts Generalitat over stalled 2024 Plan Vive bid. Elda's housing councillor Jesús Sellés says the Generalitat Valenciana has not approved the town's request to join the Plan Vive, which the council voted for at a full council meeting in 2024. Without that approval, Elda gets no access to the scheme's online platform and cannot offer municipal land for protected housing, according to the council statement reported by elperiodic Alicante on 2 October 2026.
Weather today
Storms in Alicante, showers inland: keep an umbrella handy. Open-Meteo forecasts storms in Alicante city on Friday 2 October 2026, with temperatures between 22 and 26 degrees and a 75% chance of rain.
In Alicante the wind will reach up to 24 km/h. Inland, Elda is the coolest spot today, from 18 degrees in the morning to 25 in the afternoon, with scattered showers and the highest rain risk in the area at 90%. On the southern coast, Santa Pola gets the same 22 to 26 degree range as Alicante, with scattered showers (83% chance) and the strongest wind of the day, up to 30 km/h.
In practical terms: it is still warm enough for light clothes, but take a rain jacket or umbrella and check the sky before planning a beach afternoon or a long walk. Storms are no time to be on the beach or up a hill.
Transport & traffic
- Villajoyosa's Amadorio bridge closes on Sunday. TodoAlicante reports that the bridge over the Amadorio river in Villajoyosa will be closed to traffic on Sunday 4 October 2026 so that its asphalt resurfacing can be finished. If you drive through La Vila Joiosa on Sunday, whether to Benidorm, the beach or the Sunday shopping, plan a detour and leave a little extra time. The closure is the last stage of the resurfacing work, so once it is done the crossing should be smoother on weekdays too. Keep an eye on local signs for the diversion on the day.
What's changing for you
- Free support for new parents: breastfeeding day on 5 October. On Monday 5 October 2026, the Alicante-Hospital General health department (Hospital Doctor Balmis) and the University of Alicante are holding the 9th Breastfeeding Day, an event to support breastfeeding and the families going through it, elperiodic Alicante reports. If you're expecting or have a newborn and are finding your way through the Spanish health system, this is a good chance to meet the professionals at your reference hospital and ask your questions in person. Before you go, check the hospital or university channels for the exact venue, time and how to sign up.
